NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A New York City public school teacher’s aide, accused of possessing child pornography, has been charged with producing child porn, including making sex videos inside a Brooklyn school.
Tyleek Brooks has worked at P.S. 243 in Crown Heights for more than a decade. His family members left Brooklyn Federal Court on Tuesday trying to hide their faces.

“I think it’s disgusting, really,” one parent told CBS 2′s Tony Aiello.
“It’s a shame. Our kids are not safe anymore in these schools. It’s really ridiculous,” parent Latasha Chapman said.
Parents said it was bad enough when Brooks was allegedly caught last month trading child porn on the Internet. On Tuesday they learned the FBI raided his home, searched his computer, and allegedly found child porn he actually produced.
“It’s sad. I don’t like it,” said parent Pat Thorpe.
According to the FBI, the videos “captured conduct taking place in a school classroom” and “Brooks also videotaped himself spanking a naked child.”
Students and parents said Brooks was a friendly presence the school, taking part in before- and after- school programs, and was usually seen with a camera.
“He very nice and he let you do stuff inside the gym,” one student told CBS 2′s Hazel Sanchez.
“And he teaches people how to dance,” student Lisa Lafayette said.
“It’s not the school’s fault. How could they have known? He hid it very, very well,” grandmother Sara Bartlett told Sanchez.
The disturbing charges prompted a visit from NYC Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott, who said schools will fully cooperate as the FBI investigation continues.
“My personal reaction is one of disgust on the part of this individual. Based on initial reports, this is something that is horrendous and we should not tolerate this in our society, much less have an individual like this out on the street,” Walcott said.
“He needs to get a million years, that’s what he needs to get. That’s what I have to say,” parent Steven Pruitt added.
Brooks faces a minimum of 15 years if convicted. He is currently in jail, held without bond.
The Department of Education has also suspended him without pay.
